Self care and looking after yourself is so important. Everyone’s form of self care is different whether that’s taking a night to yourself for a pamper or making plans with friends and family. However you look after your mind it’s super important to take time for you.

Lockdown has been hard on our mental health as we’ve not been able to do a lot of the things that make us happy such as being social with family and friends or personal circumstances may have changed a lot throughout the past year. We all need to make it a priority to take care of ourselves and put your mind first.

We’ve put together some self care tips to make you feel good and boost your mood and asked some of our Yours influencers what Mental Health Awareness Week means to them.

Ways To Practice Self Care

With life heading back to some sort of normality , it’s okay if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with all these new plans and the busy schedule we’re just not used to. Whilst we want to make the most out of our new found freedom, it’s also just as important to take time for yourself and practice self care.

Whatever form that takes and if it’s just an evening to your self it helps you reset and feel fresh. Who doesn’t love a good pamper anyway? I can definitely vouch for a face mask and fresh candle lit making me feel zen.

Self Care Tips

  • Pamper Night – Put some time aside one evening and run yourself a bubble bath with a fresh candle lit and your favourite face mask on.
  • Manicure – There’s no better feeling than a fresh set of nails right? You can just sit back and relax as your nails are made all pretty.
  • Read A Book – Take some time away from screens and get stuck into a book you’ve been meaning to read for ages.
  • Film Night – Film lover? It’s about time you picked a film you want to watch whether that’s a girly chick flick or an action packed film, it’s your choice! Grab your favourite snacks and a drink of your choice and get ready to relax.
  • Yoga – A meditating workout can completely relax and calm you with a focus on breathing. There’s hundreds of free YouTube videos to access – you don’t need any fancy equipment just yourself, comfy clothes and a screen you can watch it on!

What Mental Health Awareness Week Means To Yours Influencers

@nadsplustv

“I understand how mental health affects not only you but everyone around you and that why it cost nothing to be kind.”

@hollieplus

“The past year has shown me more than ever that we need to know it’s ‘OK to not be OK’ at any point of the year.

A couple of things I’ve been doing to help how I feel recently have been-

Turning my social media off. Endless scrolling doesn’t always help how I feel about life. Always remember social media is a highlight reel.

Reach out to friends. Whether you need an ear to listen, someone to make you smile, a bit of normality or even for someone just to let you know everything is still good! Friends are friends for a reason.

Create a vision board of all the amazing things you want to do or achieve. No matter how big or small. Every time you look at it, you’ll remind yourself that good things are coming. You can also do this for all the things you’ve already done!

Give yourself a break. It could be a face mask, an extra long shower, closing your laptop or grabbing a takeaway for dinner. Whatever that small thing is, give yourself a ‘no guilt’ break because you’re amazing.

Sending you all love”

“Self love. It doesn’t mean that everyone will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. It means that you won’t let them change the way you see yourself; nor will you stick around for them to destroy you”
